Horse reins leather was originally developed for horse tack, reins, and saddle components.
It typically uses relatively thick cowhide, which is then vegetable-tanned.
During the finishing process, oils and waxes are repeatedly applied to condition the leather, giving it a slightly stiff, dense, and stable feel.
Horse reins leather usually has a noticeable waxy finish.
Some surfaces may show a light whitish bloom from the wax, which is not a flaw but part of the leather conditioning process.
With use, the wax layer gradually wears off, the color deepens, the shine becomes warmer, and it eventually develops a rich, substantial, and stable vintage patina.
The inner side of the belt features a pattern hand-gilded by the craftsman.
Holes are manually hammered for precise and tight positioning, ensuring they stay secure during use.
